HOW MELKSHAM HOMECARE BEGAN
How Melksham Homecare Began
A couple of years ago our Nan, who is in her 90s, decided to fall over on the bus on her way home from town. Of course, she soldiered on and made her way home before deciding to let any of her family know. Yes, she openly admits to being stubborn and stoic!
Anyway, it turned out that she had fractured a couple of ribs and was admitted to hospital for a couple of nights to manage her pain.
When Family Pulls Together
While she was in hospital, we had a big family WhatsApp group chat going.
We planned who was visiting her in hospital, who was feeding her cats, who was getting her papers and doing her shopping, who would bring her home from hospital — making sure the house was warm and she had supplies — and who would support her on a daily basis with tasks she found difficult because of the pain.
Of course, only until she was able to do them all again, then our services were no longer required!
Realising How Lucky We Were
During this time, we realised how incredibly lucky we are to have each other. That realisation led us to want to create a service in our community that could help those who don’t have the same resources our family does.
That is how Melksham Homecare came to exist.
A Local Family, Supporting Local People
We are a local family with strong ties to Melksham and a wealth of experience in healthcare. We wanted to combine these and create a service that allows us to help those who need it — whether short term, like our Nan, or longer term.
We want to provide a service where nothing is too small or insignificant. If it is important to someone else, it is important to us.
Support That Fits Around You
We want to be there for anyone who needs us. Whether that is support to go to appointments or social events, companionship — because seeing and talking to others is so important — help with the ‘basics’ of living such as washing, dressing, moving around, eating and drinking, or more intensive support.
We will be there for those who want our support for one visit a month or multiple visits a day.
Care Built Around the Individual
The one thing that matters to us the absolute most is the people we support. Our vision is to provide a service to the people of Melksham and the surrounding area that is only concerned with what each person wants and needs.
We will never assume that we know best, and we will never try to fit people into our own ideas. Individualised care is key — your care, your choice.
From Our Family to Yours
Family is the most important thing to each of us, and we do not take our family for granted. We want to treat all our clients as an extension of our family and to truly provide care from our family to yours.
