Paying for Home Care
Finding the right care is important, but understanding how to pay for it can feel confusing. Whether you are arranging care for yourself or someone you love, there are several different ways care can be funded.
At Melksham Homecare we are happy to explain your options, although decisions about funding are made by your Local Authority or the NHS, not by us.
This guide explains the most common funding routes and provides links to organisations that can offer further advice.
Private Funding (Self-Funding)
If you are paying for your own care, you can choose whichever care provider best meets your needs.
This is often the quickest way to arrange care, with services sometimes starting within just a few days.

Local Authority Funding
If you have care needs and limited financial resources, your local Council may contribute towards or fully fund your care following a Care Needs Assessment and Financial Assessment.
The council will decide:
- Whether you are eligible
- How much support you need
- Whether you need to contribute towards the cost
NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC)
People with complex healthcare needs may qualify for NHS Continuing Healthcare, where the NHS funds care in full.
Eligibility depends on your health needs rather than your finances.
Direct Payments
Rather than the council arranging your care, some people choose to receive the funding themselves through a Direct Payment.
This gives much greater choice and flexibility, allowing you to choose a provider like Melksham Homecare.
